The problem is in

$2 = 4294967295
(gdb) p/x obj->out->id
$3 = 0xffffffff
(gdb) 

We got 32bit overflow with 64bit random seed.

I don't see the problem on a 64bit bootstrap-lto.

I guess i must have written some 32bit unsafe code.

We can't use 64bit random seed when LTO expects 32bit value.

This patch works for me.  But I don't think it is correct.
We need a way to specify HOST_WIDE_INT for lto plugin.

I did the same patch (with long long)

I think using long long here is ok because lto-plugin only builds
on modern and non weird hosts and they should all have long long 
anyways.

uint64_t is probably fine too.

HOST_WIDE_INT is needed for gcc, libcpp and plug-in.  We should
have a central host-wide-int.m4 to define all HOST_WIDE_INT related
macros.

That won't work since splay-tree doesn't support 64bit key on
32bit hosts.  We can't use 64bit id for LTO.

Maybe the splay tree can be fixed. Otherwise have to use 32bit ids on 32bit,
but then the risk of collisions is higher again.

Also I don't believe it is 100% safe to use %x for printf/scanf
on 64bit integer even on 64bit hosts. I think 64bit random seed
change should be reverted for now.

2 comments:

1. We should use long long consistently in both lto-plugin
and lto. We can add a check to enable LTO only if long long is
supported on host.
2.  Can we avoid indirect penalty on 64bit hosts?

It may not be a problem since lto-plugin.c can use
long long for symbol ID encoded in section name by
lto.c even if HOST_WIDE_INT is 32bit.

lto_splay_compare_ids returns int. *ai - *bi may be 0xfffffff10000000
and lto_splay_compare_ids returns > 0 instead of < 0.
