 Another workaround for this problem is the add the -ffloat-store flag to 
 g77, this makes both -O1 and -O2 optimization produce the correct 
 results. This might point to where to problems lies.

    According to submitter bug only shows on Intel and
    disappears when supplying the -ffloat-store option
    when compiling.  This indicates the problem is caused
    by the 80-bit intermediate floating point values on the
    IA32 architecture.
