 this bug was filed over a year ago against the current cvs. What's the  
 status on it today? Would it be possible for the submitter to determine  
 if the bug is present either in the 3.3 branch, or mainline cvs? Thanks,

 I can confirm that the problem is still present in mainline cvs. Both
 in 32 and 64-bit sparc configurations.
 
 It also occurs for x86, but the difference in generated code is much
 smaller.
