Subject: [Bug symtab/31041] New: some symtab code incorrectly uses perror_with_name
Date: Tue, 07 Nov 2023 18:40:30 +0000	[thread overview]
Message-ID: <bug-31041-4717@http.sourceware.org/bugzilla/> (raw)

https://sourceware.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=31041

            Bug ID: 31041
           Summary: some symtab code incorrectly uses perror_with_name
           Product: gdb
           Version: HEAD
            Status: NEW
          Severity: normal
          Priority: P2
         Component: symtab
          Assignee: unassigned at sourceware dot org
          Reporter: tromey at sourceware dot org
  Target Milestone: ---

I found this in coffread.c:

  val = bfd_seek (objfile->obfd.get (), symtab_offset, 0);
  if (val < 0)
    perror_with_name (objfile_name (objfile));

This is calling a BFD function but expecting an error
in errno. Instead it should inspect the BFD error.

There is similar code in dbxread.c and xcoffread.c.
