>Description:
I have been running GNATS 3.113 on an HP 9000/715 HPUX 10.20
and now want to run on a COMPAQ DS20E. I have installed GNATS on the new machine and have copied the PR database. However, when using send-pr I get the following returned mail message:

----- The following addresses had permanent fatal errors -----
"| /apps/gnu/gnats/libexec/gnats/queue-pr -q"
    (expanded from: bugs)

----- Transcript of session follows -----
sh: /apps/gnu/gnats/libexec/gnats/queue-pr: cannot execute
554 "| /apps/gnu/gnats/libexec/gnats/queue-pr -q"... unknown mailer error 1

The entries related to PR gnats/24 suggest others have experienced similar problems. Can anybody explain what is going on and provide a solution?

>Description:
Current GNATS configuration is not easy to handle for users.
The fragmentation into many files with potentionally duplicate
information, combined with insufficient error handling, makes GNATS
difficult to install and maintain for many users.

After the GNATS 4 release this should be fixed in some way.

Assumed you have a hppa2.0-hp-hpux10.20 at your fingertips

1) check you have pthread.h
2) rename pthread.h into something different

3) build your gcc-2.95.2 and install it
4) build any C++ application using iostream
(a simple cout << "Hello World !"; is enough)
but do not link with -ldce or -lcma
5) check your app is running

6) bring back pthread.h
7) reconfigure, rebuild and reinstall your compiler gcc-2.95.2

8) the previoulsly running app won't start, saying that there are undefined symbols ...

If a user edits a PR, clicks "submit" and then presses the "stop" button in the browser (maybe having forgotten to edit some field), the lock file of the PR (in gnats-adm/lock) is not removed. Thus, if the user makes further edits, then presses "submit" again, the following rather unintuitive error message results:

Error

PR 6981 has been modified since you started editing it.
Please return to the edit form, press the Reload button, then make your edits again.
Last-Modified was 'Wed Jan 24 22:58:17 MET 2001'
Last-Modified is now ''

Going back and pressing reload, reediting and resubmitting results in the same error message.

After manual deletion of the lock file, submission of edits is allowed again.

Gnats seems to forget about removing the gnats.lock file in the gnats-adm directory. This has happened on a couple of occasions in one of our Gnats databases. The symptoms are that people are unable to make any edits to any of the PRs in the database, and since it often takes some time before people report this, we haven't been able to find out how to reproduce the problem.

>Organization:
>Environment:
Solaris 2.6, with MIT Kerberos support
>Description:
It's becoming more common these days to get problem reports using
quoted-printable encoding and/or multipart mime messages. It
would be a great help to have the QP decoding done before
storing the mail (probably could be done as an input filter),
and extra mime parts handled in some reasonable way. Certainly
attachments should be kept around (perhaps as separate files), I'm less sure about
multipart/alternative stuff.

Many years ago, when MIME use was fairly new, I would've considered
this a missing but non-essential feature. These days, I consider
it a serious obstacle to deal with.

I'm looking at deploying 3.113 to replace 3.99-beta, but it looks
like it still has no support for this.
>How-To-Repeat:
Send in a bug report by email using mime and quoted-printable.
Watch the db entry get so mangled (including discarding mime-related
mail headers) that you can't decode it without manual tweaking.
>Fix:
Decode mail on input, save multiple parts.

>Description:
Info node "Configure and make" section 3 (run 'configure')
states that with

	./configure --with-full-gnats

GNATS is set to run on the machine we're building it on;

However, doing the above will set the GNATS server
name to "gnats", not the name of the host
where we're building.

It is not until much later in the build process
("Installing the daemon") that we learn that
the server for the daemon is assumed to be the
one with name "gnats", and that to override this,
we should build with flag

	--with-gnats-server=HOSTNAME

to set it to the actual hostname, during
the first step of the build.

Could the documentation be changed so that we don't
learn about this so late in the build process?

1. The send-pr INSTALL document neglects to mention that
the 'bugs' alias has to be in the client system's

2. Or the problem is that mkdist isn't setting a
variable that allows the client's Makefile to set the
mail address which is to receive bugs.

I have looked thru the source and line 478 is in the decode_attachement subprocedure, but I don't understand perl well enough to know why I am getting that error.
I have also tried different versions of gnatsweb and have the same problem. query_pr does work.

>Description:
I am having a stack overflow problem when my C++ program is compiled and linked using GCC and ld. The problem was not there when the same program is compiled using a different compiler.

The GCC version is 2.7.2
Compile and link with no errors.

Description of the problem:
When a class has a data member that is an array of another class (composition), the memory is reserved on the stack instead of heap when the class is constructed. The size of the memory is equal to the size of the array * size of the class which is larger than the stack size.

As I understand that the data members that declared in the class header file will live in the heap, and stack is a working storage for the task which backs up the register values and addresses if the interrupt occurs. When the class is instantiated, stack should be empty.

Your help will be appreciated.

The GCC project actually has a number of semi-independent
sub-projects. One of these, the Java project, would like
to get all their PR traffic sent to a special mailing
list, java-prs.

Right now we can get notification of new PRs sent to
java-prs via the categories file.

However, responses and updates to these PRs are not sent
to java-prs. I couldn't find a way to make this happen.
I think this would be a useful feature.
