Anybody out there? I sent out a query about bug reporting systems
for Xconq, and haven't heard from anybody at all. I realize that
it's pretty low-priority for Red Hat (perhaps this is a subtle hint
to move Xconq to sourceforge?), but it can't take that much effort
to toss off at least a flip reply. :-)

Sorry, Tom has been the one to set this up in the past.

I guess we need either a script or a cookbook for doing this. I have
no idea how to start.

I tried to send email abou this yesterday but it bounced :-(.
Something weird here.

Chris> Sorry, Tom has been the one to set this up in the past.

Chris> I guess we need either a script or a cookbook for doing this.
Chris> I have no idea how to start.

We have a cookbook for doing it. It is in the sourceware web pages.
I'm happy to do the work, but I can't do it this week. I suddenly (as
of yesterday) have schedule pressure.

Phew. It should be done.

That was a pretty labor-intensive process. I could tell by the number
of phone calls and other interruptions it automatically generated when
I started working on it...

Start with
http://sources.redhat.com/sourceware/gnats.html

There is a cookbook there (no warranties on how accurate it is, as
I've never followed it - please update it if you find problems).

As for GNATS versus other systems, I see that gnatsweb seems to have a
pointy-clicky file attachment upload feature like bugzilla and the
rest. So it would seem usable for your purposes, Stan.

As for sources.redhat versus sourceforge, I'm in the fun position of
being an admin on both those sites. So it doesn't matter to *me*
which you pick :-). (Both of them have their pros and cons).

Thanks! Actually, I wanted to figure out which one to use before
setting anything up, but gnats does have the big advantage of
already having the cookbook, eh?

The default gnatsweb setup seems a little ugly compared to the others,
but that's something I can tinker with a bit. Nobody does Xconq as
part of their job, so it's important to make bug submission as
appealing as possible (maybe play a bit of soothing music :-) )

What bug system does sourceforge use, anyway? I didn't see it
identified as one of the standard packages.

We wrote our own in PHP. Lightweight in terms of all the fancy
states, classes, queries, &c. But integrated into the rest of
sourceforge (e.g. you can log in with the same login as you use for
the rest of the site, shows up on existing project and user pages,
that kind of thing).

You can download the code along with the rest of the sourceforge
tarball (1.5 is the most recent release; I don't think the bug-tracker
has been changing much).
