One of the users has reported the following error today, which I am reproducing in its entirety with an explanation of what each line means. The error went away, pretty much by itself when the user re-issued the make command again. I am also attaching herewith the cygcheck.out file that contains the output of the cygcheck program run on the said user's machine. Thanks in advance for any insight (and possible remedy) that you may provide. Regards, Sid R.C. The makefile therein defines recursive builds in three other directories, the first two of which are ../boot and ../common. The makefile scripts in the two paths are respectively makefile.boot and makefile.com. The command-line macros appearing in the echoed recursive make invocations dictate the names, types and locations of the targets to be built by each. Chaudhuri <sraychaudhuri@qualcomm.com> To: test-list@sources.redhat.com Subject: GNU Make error: "couldn't send signal 20" Date: Tue, 17 Oct 2000 16:47:00 -0000 Message-id: <200010172347.TAA13731@rtl.cygnus.com> X-SW-Source: 2000/msg00028.html Content-length: 10650 Hello: I have created a recursive build package for my colleagues using GNU Make. C:\code\build>make Make: make -C ../boot TARGET=boot.lib LIBDIR=submk IMAGETYPE=lib NOAUTODEP= SUBMKARGS= -f makefile.boot make[1]: Entering directory `/cygdrive/c/Simba/code/l1_cphy_setup/boot' make[1]: Nothing to be done for `bld'. make[1]: Leaving directory `/cygdrive/c/Simba/code/l1_cphy_setup/boot' Make: make -C ../common TARGET=common.lib LIBDIR=submk IMAGETYPE=lib NOAUTODEP= SUBMKARGS= -f makefile.com C:\utils\cygwin\bin\make.exe: *** couldn't send signal 20 make: *** [../common/submk/common.lib] Error 1 In the above, the user issued the top-level make command from the directory C:\code\build. In the mean time, I will continue to complain to my (corporate) ISP regarding their membership in the ORBS database. I thought Charles Wilson's post was very illuminating. I wonder if that is what caused my problem with HarvardNet in the first place. Anyway... thanks again.
