This is just a warning to please upgrade Cygwin as explained at:

	https://cygwin.com/faq.html#faq.using.fixing-find_fast_cwd-warnings

and please report the issue to whoever produces the software you are using.

Dear Рома,

the software you are using, that you have not mentioned,
is embedding an ancient version of the cygwin1.dll

https://cygwin.com/faq.html#faq.using.fixing-find_fast_cwd-warnings

Please ask whowever is distributing it to upgrade it

That is not enough information to help anyone here. What software is
showing this and what is the course you are using it in. The problem
is that the software needs to be updated and recompiled to work with
newer Cygwin versions, and whoever is the provider did not change the
error message to say contact them versus this list.

Hello,

I just received the error message "WARNING: Couldn't compute FAST_CWD
pointer. Please report this problem to the public mailing list
cygwin@cygwin.com"

So I'm just here following instructions.

I usually operate git from the terminal in RStudio, and for some reason
that is also not functioning (and returning the same error message).

So this error message is coming up using RStudio terminal and windows
command prompt, and for some reason I can't access git from Rstudio
terminal (but can from windows command prompt)

Thanks

The warning comes from applications using an old version of cygwin.dll.
It is not an error.

Hi Martin,
the software that is packing that VERY OLD version of cygwin is
behind several years.

Ask them to upgrade to a more recent version or install
by your self cygwin from the source:
https://www.cygwin.com/

PS: no idea at all what IAS_Advantage is.

I just updated to Win 10.

Now I get this:

C:\IAS_Advantage>ls
       1 [main] ls 2504 find_fast_cwd: WARNING: Couldn't compute
FAST_CWD pointer. Please report this problem to
the public mailing list cygwin@cygwin.com

So ... that's what I've done (after a brief google didn't turn up a
solution)

Please make sure you have updated your Cygwin installation from a
current mirror, and to be safe, reboot Windows. If that does not help,
then we will need more information:

I experienced the same thing when I upgraded to Windows 8.1. The
messages went away when I upgraded to the latest and greatest Cygwin.
