Synopsis: Suggest using -z1 option for cvs in contrib/gcc_update
State-Changed-From-To: open->closed
State-Changed-By: rodrigc
State-Changed-When: Sat Jan 19 14:26:46 2002
State-Changed-Why:
As Geoff Keating mentioned, adding -z1 to gcc_update
may not be a good idea. A user can enter -z1 in the .cvsrc
if they wish.

This is really not a good idea in general. For some people, -z9 will
make 'cvs update' faster, but for others it will make it slower, and
it adds to the load on the server.
Those who find -z9 or -z1 or whatever is helpful can add it to .cvsrc.

The instructions at http://gcc.gnu.org recommend using -z 9, so would
this
be acceptable to add to gcc_update?

I suggest adding -z1 or -z2 at cvs in contrib/gcc_update to reduce traffic at update. I think this is a performance win with not so fast connections.
But I don't know whether your server has enough power to ....
