Assuming you are using IPC cygserver calls
https://cygwin.com/cygwin-ug-net/using-cygserver.html

Is cygserver service running ?

In general it will be difficult to replicate your problem
without a (simple) test case.

Please follow also general guideline
https://cygwin.com/problems.html

specially this point with 2.4.1 release, please

"Run cygcheck -s -v -r > cygcheck.out and include that file as an
attachment in your report. Please do not compress or otherwise encode
the output. Just attach it as a straight text file so that it can be
easily viewed. "

PS:
  1.7-58 was a test release of 2009
https://sourceware.org/ml/cygwin-announce/2009-08/msg00020.html

Regards
Marco

flex package is not changed in the last two years.
bison (that provide yacc) similar

Your path is not recommended for cygwin

Path: C:\Windows\system32
         C:\Windows
         C:\Windows\System32\Wbem
         C:\Windows\System32\WindowsPowerShell\v1.0\
         C:\cygwin\bin
         m:\misys\bin

Just to avoid problems due to interference use:

Path:
	C:\cygwin\bin
	C:\Windows\system32
	C:\Windows
	C:\Windows\System32\Wbem
	C:\Windows\System32\WindowsPowerShell\v1.0\

As we have, of course, no clue of where EAGAIN is raising
in your application, have you tried to use strace to run the program ?
At least will give a hint of which system calls are failing.

Regards
Marco

Hi ,

We have call to "msgsnd" function that fails after processing 3 to 4 messages.

We tried both Block and NO Block mechanism (IPC_NOWAIT)

Also we changes configuration of cygserver.conf .This increases
message processing to 8-10 messages. But fails after that.

Attached is cygserver.conf file for reference:

I don't know if that is relevant , but please note that the file is with
"with CRLF line terminators"

I tested cygserver with msgtool from cygutils-extra package
with:

   a=0 ; while [ $? -eq 0 ] ;  do  a=$[$a+1] ; echo $a ; msgtool  s $a
"This is test" ; done

   a=0 ; while [ $? -eq 0 ] ;  do  a=$[$a+1] ; echo $a ; msgtool  r $a
; done

The system default accepts up to 40 messages so it seems strange that
it fails on 8-10 messages or less on your system.

I suggest you to look on output of
/usr/sbin/cygserver.exe -d

for hints on why is not working for your application.

Until you provide us a simple test case that we can replicate,
I doubt we can understand or solve the issue you meet.

Regards
Marco

Hi,

Further to this we could now see that "NO MORE PROCESS" error is
displayed due to some of the process not get de-queued from memory

Our application use fork process to create child and then pass SIGUSR1
for SIGCHLD to terminate child process.

Sighandler is installed on the start of process. But this process is
not getting invoked many a times due to which child process does not
get killed.

We are working on how to recreate this using simple test case . As
this problem occurs mostly is heavy load and at random.

We are also working to take latest cygwin and check on that .

But we are getting error on SEMOPEN function as "semget , prot or table full"

Please help us .

I don't know the answer to your question. But it appears you might be
building in the same directory that holds the Cygwin source. That won't
work. You should be following the recipe in the FAQ, located here...
https://cygwin.com/faq.html#faq.programming.building-cygwin

Note that the list of required build tools shown there may be a little
different for such an old release, so beware. But the main point is to
set up a build directory like /oss, with subdirectories /oss/build,
/oss/install, and /oss/src. What I tend to do is define a symbolic link
/oss/src that points at the directory containing the Cygwin source tree,
/cygdrive/c/cygwin/cygwin-1.7.0-58 in your case. Then cd to /oss/build
and run configure and make like the FAQ entry describes. Good luck!

Hi,

I really need help/clue on this:

We have our system qualified with cygwin 1.7.0.58 and we are facing
some issue in msgsnd/msgrcv functions.
We have got the fix of this problem but the code change is in
sysv_msg.cc ( under cygserver) by calling msleep

We tried to download source from the path provided but getting
compilation error as we have compiled it using latest cygwin package.

Now our problem is ..we do not have any option left as latest cygwin
is giving us some other problem like (semaphore not getting created )

Please help us is any of the below things are possible:
1, Can we compile only cygserver.exe with changes ?
2. Can we get complete package and source through which we can build
cygwin 1.7.0.58?

I know my problem sounds very odd..But please help. We are really stuck in this.

Any time you insert sleep calls into something means you have a timing
issue and are just masking the real problem, which will probably show
itself in a different way later.

I'll defer to the Cygwin devs for real analysis, though.

Downloading the whole tool chain for that release of Cygwin might work
better for you. Also, there is a specific build process for Cygwin
documented on the website, that I believe someone else already replied to
you about. If not, search the mail archives.

Probably. Why not?

I emailed you privately with the process to pull all of that release +
source. I never heard back from you and my logs don't seem to show any
access to the paths for that release. If you have further problems
downloading it, please email me privately.

[-- Attachment #1: Type: text/plain, Size: 584 bytes --]

I downloaded Cygwin 1.7.0-58 source from path:
http://ftp.eq.uc.pt/software/pc/prog/cygwin/release-2/cygwin/

Also downloaded all the packages of cygwin version 1.7.0.58

ftp://www.fruitbat.org/pub/cygwin/circa-2/index.html"

And followed instructions to compile from below document:

https://cygwin.com/faq/faq.html#faq.programming.building-cygwin

I have downloaded gcc-ada still getting error on this package while
compiling ( it hangs on this while configuring "ada" module)

Please help me further on this.

Is there any other procedure for building an older release of cygwin.

Cygwin is not GCC Ada, nor vice versa.

I’m being pedantic because you’re referencing Cygwin build instructions but having trouble with a third-party package. You may have the version of GCC Ada that was distributed at the same time that Cygwin 1.7.0-58 was current, but that doesn’t mean that version of Cygwin’s build instructions are relevant to GCC Ada.

You need to read the README and INSTALL files that came with GCC Ada.

I’ve never built GCC Ada from source — or used it as a binary, for that matter — but I’ll go through your config.log file and see what I can see.

That seems very odd.

First, it implies that you have unpacked the Cygwin GCC Ada source package into /oss/src. It should be unpacked into a directory named gcc-ada-*, shouldn’t it?

Second, running a GNU autoconf configure script from a directory other than the source tree means you get a separate build tree. GCC Ada should be able to be built that way, but usually the pattern looks different from what you show. That implies that you haven’t read the GCC Ada build instructions.

> uname -v = 2009-08-13 17:52

Well, that’s a good sign. It implies that you have gotten Cygwin 1.7.0-58 built and are building underneath it. Are you using a contemporaneous version of all the other tools? Shell, make, gcc, newlib, libbfd, etc.?

What I’m getting at is, by this point you should have a standalone basic Cygwin 1.7 environment, no longer dependent on any Cygwin 2.x DLLs, tools, etc. Do you?

It looks like you don’t have a standalone environment yet.

According to the Cygwin Time Machine, Cygwin was still shipping GCC 3.4.4 at that time.

Which reminds me: why are you building from source and not using the binaries from the Cygwin Time Machine?

Even if you want to build from source eventually, you should rebuild everything using contemporaneous tools, not modern ones.

That’s the sort of error you get when trying to build old (7 years!) sources with current tools.

Ooops, never mind. I now see that Cygwin was still shipping two different versions of GCC back then, and its gcc4 is 4.3.2.

Still, I think I’m still correct about the core diagnosis for the std::exit() thing the GCC Ada configure script is complaining about, except that it’s a too-new C++ Standard Library causing the problem, rather than a too-new C++ compiler.

Or, I could still be right, since you claim to have downloaded “gcc-ada” rather than “gcc4-ada”. If that’s literally what you’ve done, you should be building with GCC 3, not GCC 4.

Are you saying you downloaded and installed *all* the packages present in Cygwin
1.7.0-58? Everything listed on that www.fruitbat.org page?

If so, you have made more work for yourself. Your config.log seems to show
'configure' is running into trouble determining whether Ada is supported. You
don't need Ada to compile Cygwin itself. Uninstall the gcc-ada package you've
downloaded.

"Top-posting" is posting your entire reply at the top of the message
you are replying to rather than placing your reply into logical
placement in the conversation thread. "Top-posting" disrupts the
logical reading pattern, and to see what you are replying to, readers
have to scroll down below your reply and guess which pieces you are
replying to.

A better structure is to insert your replies just below the part you
are replying to, so readers can read what you are to, and then read
your reply.

I downloaded Cygwin 1.7.0-58 source from path:
http://ftp.eq.uc.pt/software/pc/prog/cygwin/release-2/cygwin/

Also downloaded all the packages of cygwin version 1.7.0.58

ftp://www.fruitbat.org/pub/cygwin/circa-2/index.html"

And followed instructions to compile from below document:

https://cygwin.com/faq/faq.html#faq.programming.building-cygwin

I installed required packages and tried to compile cygwin version 1.7.0-58 .
Now my compilation went down but again stopped at some point. Its
halting in awk command after warning

config.status: WARNING: '/oss/src/winsup/Makefile.in' seems to ignore
the --datarootdir setting

awk: ./confXqR7rV/subs.awk:1: BEGIN {\r
awk: ./confXqR7rV/subs.awk:1: ^ backslash not last character on line
config.status: error: could not create Makefile

I have set SHELLOPTS= igncr ,still its give error .

Even I tried command dos2unix on configure files and awk.

Please give some clue what is going wrong here.

Cygwin 1.7.x is actually pretty old. The current version is 2.4.1. You
may want to run a test against the current version to see if this solves
your problem.

Hi ,

I have a application that is invoked multiple times. Each invocation
accesses shared memory for a performing task.

This all works with Cygwin1.3

Now We are using Cygwin 1.7-58 with windows 2008 after this The number
of attached processes keeps on increments and due to which system
resource gets full.

None of the process get detached from shared memory

With Cygwin 1.7-58 When I run through my application, it will give
successful response for 3 messages out 5 messages and my client
application hangs. My Error log file has recorded the following
statements:
CU-E-3404(3196):Unable to Send Communication Packet (CUP) on Queue.
msgsnd-E-3011(3196):EAGAIN No more processes..

Our application uses IPC functionalities for sending and receiving
messages from other application. I have made the following
configuration for message queue, shared memory and semaphore

MSGINFO:
MSGMAX: 4096
MSGMNI: 50
MSGTQL: 400
MSGMAP: 402
MSGMNB: 16384

SEMINFO:
SEMMNI: 200
SEMMNS: 128
SEMMNU: 150

SHMINFO:
SHMMNI: 100
SHMMAX: 2000000

So please... can any one suggest where m going wrong and please give
me the possible solutions for it.
Your help is really appreciated.
