Hi,

The link page http://sourceware.org/gdb/current/onlinedocs/gdb/Command-Files.html#Command-Files
is not available for now. Maybe the gdb online docs have problems.

Thanks
Mingjie

Yeah, I can build Command-Files.html via `make html' in my machine, but
looks it doesn't exist on sourceeware.org server.

I can access link
http://sourceware.org/gdb/current/onlinedocs/gdb/Sequences.html and
click "Command Files" in this page. Then, I see an error on "page not
found".

I don't know how these html files are synced to sourceware.org server,
but I guess there might be some problem there.

Maybe the tools on sourceware are too old for the current documentation,
I am not sure. I can take a look, but just don't have the time for
another 10-15 days :-(. Can we see if the documentation from the
last release was properly generated?

same with the "GDB/MI Output Syntax" link on the page:

http://sourceware.org/gdb/current/onlinedocs/gdb/GDB_002fMI-Command-Syntax.html#GDB_002fMI-Command-Syntax

leads to a 404 at:
http://sourceware.org/gdb/current/onlinedocs/gdb/GDB_002fMI-Output-Syntax.html#GDB_002fMI-Output-Syntax

I get a build on gdb-7.4.1 release on my box. Both missing files, as
reported, Command-Files.html and GDB_002fMI-Command-Syntax.html are
generated properly. However, the pdf version got from
http://sourceware.org/gdb/current/onlinedocs/gdb.pdf.gz looks correct.

A lot users reference gdb html doc on sourceware.org, so it is not good
to give them a "page not found" error. I am happy to help on this, but
don't know what I can do.

Same here. I can help if needed, I just found another page which is 404
on the server.

For the record, I started taking a log, but I cannot reproduce
the problem when I run the script by hand. So I've modified the
script to stop deleting the build area - I'll wait for tonight's
build, and see what clues I can find there.

Progress report:

I am making some progress, but still haven't been able to figure out
where the process failed. I've isolated the area where things start
failing to the moment when we are copying the HTML files to the online
location, but it all works like a charm when I run things manually.
(I have a suspicion that this might be locale-related)

I've added some traces to figure whether it's "find" or "tar" that
fails.

In the meantime, one of the side-effects of me trying the command by
hand is the fact that the online documentation should at least be
better today.

Thanks a lot, Joel. If you need some help, please shout.

OK, I think that the source of the problem is identified, thanks to
Doug's keen knowledge of the xargs command. I have installed a tentative
fix, and will let it run for a few days before checking it in.

Let me know if some pages are still missing.

I'm not sure it is related but the references to named anchors do not work for a long time (may be never?).
For example if you click on the "set substitute-path" link near the top of the page http://sourceware.org/gdb/onlinedocs/gdb/Source-Path.html the page should be
scrolled to the corresponding definition but it doesn't.

Regards,
Mikhail

It looks like a bug in the HTML generation program (makeinfo). I took
a quick look, and it could be something to do with a confusion in
the handling of keys that have spaces in them. But the problem is
that the generated HTML is not straightforward, and I'm not a big
specialist either. I had already installed the latest version,
so the only upgrade possible would to be use a snapshot, which
I am not keen on doing.

Unsurprisingly, we are not the only ones to hit that problem:
http://osdir.com/ml/bug-texinfo-gnu/2009-04/msg00032.html

The message indicates that GNU texinfo plans to transition to
texi2html. But there has been no release of GNU texinfo that
includes it (last release that I can find appears to be 4.13a
published Sep 2008). There is a release of texi2html (5.0),
that looks like it was published in July 2010. Perhaps we can
try that.
