LGTM.

I read the upstream discussion and I agree the request is reasonable.

Supported is correct. I should have rewritten the whole paragraph for present
tense, but what we have is good enough to clearly and succinctly explain what
we have done.

Always think of the NEWS notice from the user perspective. The user doesn't
really care about the difference between "proivded" or "supported", they just
want to know that *today* they now have access to these new features.

Cheers,
Carlos.

All I care about is that the bug is listed, though I agree we could do
a better job.

I could alter the use of the keyword glibc_X.Y to mean "Fixed on branch"
and then alter list-fixed-bugs.py X.Y to search for:

* milestone is X.Y (Bugs fixed in that release, including release branch)

* keywords includes glibc_X.Y (Bugs fixed on the release branch)

This way we avoid the needless creation of new bugs for fixing things
on release branches.

Thoughts?

Thank you Carlos for this review and thank you Joseph for the discussion.
Is "supported"/"support" the correct word? IIUC this sounds like a new
software feature while I'm only adding new data. Wouldn't "provided" be
better, or "added" or "included"? Also I think it would be better to use
the consequent wording "nominative/genitive" vs. "alternative".

Just please confirm if "supported" is correct.

I was going to ask if it should be marked as fixed in 2.28 or 2.27.1
(there is no such option in Bugzilla) or 2.27. Also I was going to mark
as fixed after pushing to 2.27. The same about other bugs.

OK, just please confirm the correct wording in NEWS and the correct
target milestone in Bugzilla.

As spotted by GNOME translation team, Greek language has the actually
visible difference between the abbreviated nominative and the abbreviated
genitive case for some month names. Examples:

May:

abbreviated nominative: "Μάι" -> abbreviated genitive: "Μαΐ"

July:

abbreviated nominative: "Ιούν" -> abbreviated genitive: "Ιουλ"

and more month names with similar differences.

As consensus allows if the patch is in glibc master, and does not change
the existing release branch ABI, it may be backported to an open release
branch without need for review. You are however free to post them for
review if that's what you want. The release branch ABI includes the
alternative month names, and so is stable, and all you do here is backport
new data.

LGTM.

Having no answer for this question I am going to push to master exactly
the version suggested by Carlos. We are not in a crunch time so if anything
needs rewording we will have time for this. Unfortunately, I won't have
time to push anything these days except now.

We already don't create such bugs.

Changes in Bugzilla usage should be discussed on libc-alpha.

And people don't seem to be doing a very good job of making the NEWS
entries on release branches for fixed bugs look like those on master
(which include the name of the component).

I advise the approach of using "scripts/list-fixed-bugs.py 2.28" to get
the properly formatted entry to add to NEWS on the release branch. That
does of course require you first to have properly marked the bug as fixed
with target milestone set.

I have just pushed these patches to master and I'd like to backport
them to 2.27 stable branch as well. Please review, especially the
things like ChangeLog, NEWS (patch #5), commit messages, etc.

The milestone is always about mainline releases, not subsequent fixes on
release branches.

Bugs should always be marked as FIXED as soon as the fix is on mainline,
so that list-fixed-bugs.py always generates a correct list of the bugs
that would be fixed in the next release if we were to release immediately.

A GNOME translator asked to use the same abbreviated month names
as provided by CLDR. This sounds reasonable. See the discussion:
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=793645#c27

Suggest:

Czech languages. The Catalan and Greek languages now support abbreviated
  alternative month names.

If these bug fixes need a news entry, then there should be a news entry in glibc
master NEWS *first* before you add it here.

Not marked fixed in 2.28 (target milestone should be set to 2.28 and marked fixed).

Next steps:

- Commit a NEWS update to glibc master.
- Mark all bugs fixed with milestone set to glibc 2.28.
- Commit the same NEWS entry in 2.27.
- Commit all the changes (will automatically add comments to bugzilla
that they were also fixed in release/2.27/master).

Cheers,
Carlos.
