Maybe it was temporary, the GNU mailing list page works for me right now.

However, there has been no activity there for many years, I think we should
either remove it from our page, or at least mention that it's there for
archive purposes only.

This is generated from the gdb.texinfo file in the GDB source code, so you
could provide a patch for this as well:

You can generate the HTML manual using the "make html" command in the gdb/doc
build directory.

Hmm, we would have to find out if it's a texinfo bug, or just us using texinfo wrong.

Again, you can generate this file using the "make html" command mentioned above and
try to find out why.

Sounds reasonable. I didn't receive a reply from the gnu webmasters, maybe they are overloaded with lockdown.

Could the scripts that need 'html' command make a suggestion to install texinfo html convertor package 'texi2html' ?

I've attached a patch that removes those broken links.

Thanks, these changes are fine with me in principle, but the
indentations seems to be wrong here:

Is the added fprintf conditioned by this 'if':

My apologies, the first version didn't compile as you mentioned in your other email.

Other shell tools with such URLs or email addresses are using <> without the mailto:, eg make --help

Report bugs to <bug-make@gnu.org>

gdb --help currently has extra quotes:-

Report bugs to "<http://www.gnu.org/software/gdb/bugs/>".

I had kept the same style with the quotes. Would it actually be better to remove the quotes so it matches other tools 
like strings --help etc?

So it would then look like:

Report bugs to <http://www.gnu.org/software/gdb/bugs/>.
GDB mailing list <gdb@sourceware.org>

W3C have an online link checker, https://validator.w3.org/checklink it also finds the error

I just did an experiment, and sent an email to bug-gdb, and got
an email back from gdb-owner that it is being held in quarantine
waiting for and admin to approve it. So I think the redirection
is working, but now the mailing-list settings don't let those through
without moderator approval.

I was wondering how active the newsgroup might be. One can take
a look there:

To sumarize:
  - One post in 2019, with a question and no replies;
  - Nothing in 2018;
  - A stream of spam in 2017;
  - Two posts in 2016, with no answers;
  - Nothing in 2015;
  - More activity in 2014.

I'm wondering if we shouldn't just ask gnu.org to shut gnu.gdb.bug down.
Then we can adapt the mailinglist page on the GDB website accordingly,
with a link to the old archives for reference (as long as they are live).

I would suggest to update the bug-gdb link to the correct server at least for the moment. https://sourceware.org/gdb/mailing-lists/  What do you think?
I don't know who has access to the web page. I can submit a patch if that would be supported.

Probably better to just link to the archive, and clarify it is an old archive
"archive of old bug-gdb mailing list"
