Hello, gentle maintainer.
This is a message from the Translation Project robot.
A revised PO file for textual domain 'opcodes' has been submitted
by the German team of translators. The file is available at:
https://translationproject.org/latest/opcodes/de.po
(We can arrange things so that in the future such files are automatically
e-mailed to you when they arrive. Ask at the address below if you want this.)
All other PO files for your package are available in:
https://translationproject.org/latest/opcodes/
Please consider including all of these in your next release, whether
official or a pretest.
Whenever you have a new distribution with a new version number ready,
containing a newer POT file, please send the URL of that distribution
tarball to the address below. The tarball may be just a pretest or a
snapshot, it does not even have to compile. It is just used by the
translators when they need some extra translation context.
The following HTML page has been updated:
https://translationproject.org/domain/opcodes.html
If any question arises, please contact the translation coordinator.
Thank you for all your work,
The Translation Project robot, in the
name of your translation coordinator.

Thanks!
Btw. as mentioned earlier I could not manage to get this string and
others translated in "objdump --help". My layman understanding is that
this is due to the strings being in the "opcodes" message catalog and
objdump is using the "binutils" one:
$ LANG=de_DE.utf8 gdb --args objdump --help
...
(gdb) b bindtextdomain
(gdb) run
...
Breakpoint 1, __bindtextdomain
(domainname=domainname@entry=0x2aa0015b262 "binutils",
dirname=dirname@entry=0x2aa0015b236
"/home/jremus/temp/binutils-gcc/share/locale") at bindtextdom.c:320
Thanks and regards,
Jens

I am going to apply the patch below to the mainline sources...

I fixed the German translation, just as you suggested. If you find more
typos or other mistakes, please tell me.

The developers could insert a /* TRANSLATORS: ... */ comment above the
line, relying on the translators to see this message. This often works.
If it doesn't, I'd use the placeholder variant you suggested. More
generally, I also recomment placeholders for messages that often repeat,
such as "option '%s' requires an argument", as this prevents the
translators from introducing typos in the option name.

I noticed that the term "z/Architecture" has been translated to
"z/-Architektur". It would be preferable not to translate this term or
at least use "z/Architektur" (without hyphen), although the latter is
uncommon. Note that the respective string apparently won't get
translated in "objdump --help", as the message text is in the "opcodes"
and not in the "binutils" domain.
Is there a way to mark or annotate terms within message texts as not to
translate? I checked the GNU gettext documentation [1], which suggests
to use a placeholder for URLs [2]. This would have worked for this case,
if the subject string would not be in a table.
[1] GNU gettext, section "Preparing Program Sources":
https://www.gnu.org/software/gettext/manual/html_node/Sources.html
[2] GNU gettext, section "Preparing Program Sources", subsection
"Preparing Translatable Strings":

Thanks and regards,
Jens
